Week 10 ! Force connection

Our topic this week is Force connection , which basically means  , forcing two items to connect and form a certain item that is suppose to be multifunctional.
Multifunctionality , is also an innovative way to invent something needed , might not exactly match , but as people adapted , and live with certain items , they just adapted and feel like the item is meant to be in that way .
One of the multifunctional items is Swiss army knife . Not only does it have a knife , but it also have tweezers and other stuff kept inside . it was a force connection between a pocket knife and several other stuff at once .
Another innovative thing is a spork
its basically a spoon and a fork fused together to create a utensil .

This week , we were assigned to do a review on Two Videos , and A show called Shark tank .
I really like Shark Tank as it resembles this other movie shows that are also about investors choosing on products they want to invest on .
My favorite product is ScrubDaddy . which is a force connection between a scrub and a sponge . The design is cute , and the videos shows that it scrubs really well .
It is a normal scrub+sponge product , but the fact that it cleans so well in the videos amazes me .

The TED talk video proved that our creativity is being affected by the way we went through daily life and how society indirectly affects our creativity by creating rules. The Talker in this video wanted to change how the society works in order to create a better , more creative human as the view of society and how society stereotype and judge things can result to a really monotonous way of thinking , therefore creating a stuck-up way of thinking . Its really wonderful how our brain could react to things differently than the way they did before just by simply changing the procedure we carry throughout each different day , like how doing one good deed could change your mood throughout the day , or maybe the thought of jealousy that occupy one's mind could easily ruin the mood for the whole day .
The " Health week " mentioned in the talk  is one of the way some institution tried to cope with people not being creative and just a way of relaxing , but truthfully , just like what the talker said , instead of being a " health" week , it is better of called as " sickness " week , as the speech and activities listed on the event doesn't only discusses negative effects , one of the events are actually situated on Friday night .

The other video about Human brains and Insight shows and teach me that there are very many different ways to utilize your brain and train it to be creative . By continuing to solve problems but not restraining our brain , we can train our brain to be creative . There are also several experiments shown in the video , as in the one where people becoming more creative when they explore new things , or the other experiment about which people can easily figure out different ways to use bricks .
I find the fact amusing that if someone has less white-part ( of the brain ) , they tend to be more creative .  The facts about brain that the experiments and analysis show really helps me to understand how our brain works better in terms of being creative . My favorite part was discovering why people tend to look over somewhere else or might sometimes close their eyes when they are being asked a tricky question or are just deep in thoughts , as staring at the other person's face would be too distracting . Turns out our back part ( the part of the brain that has something to do with our ability to visualize things ) are in charge of that process . The back part of the brain then sends the information to our left and right part of the brain ( in which the right part tends to be more dominant when it comes to getting insights) , and the right part of the brain will release this gamma ray that triggers the insight .

Overall , this session has been informative and i am really happy to know how our brain works .
Thank you for reading .

Week 11 , Empathy

For me, Empathy is a connection , between two people or maybe even a group of people who wants to share their experience together . Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another to be precise , which in a way is connecting what you felt to what they are currently feeling .
This week's class has been quite emotional for me . Not only do i heard backgrounds of the people which i didn't know so well , but also Mr.Ezzam's feelings and thoughts about empathy , personally i can confidently say that this class has changed the way i look at people, and the way to treat them . I have been having lots of second thoughts lately , especially when meeting someone who clearly acts unpolite , or maybe someone i knew from the past that left me with a bitter experience . Maybe They had a bad experience that causes them to think, or act that way .
I Felt really lucky having this class together , with the same people and my fav teacher , Mr.Ezzam . I feel like this is a really good class to end the semester , i feel reluctant to parting with everyone in this class , i feel that everyone actually bonds really well together .

Note to Mr.Ezzam :
I hope your mom gets well soon !!

hahaha

POTD !
This is a picture of the Grup Hibiki-ya that collaborated with an Indonesian Drum group for the SingaDrumGaya team performance !! The show took place in Esplanade outdoor theatre last Saturday night .
Watching the show makes me remember of the Taiko group performance myold school had .The difference between this show and the show my school had was the passion they show . This one was sensational and really energetic ! Meanwhile my old school performance was really passionate , especially with the place the mood sets in . A Drummer in our school bleeds his hand halfway just because it was going to be his last performance in the school , watching it made me feel really sad but also happy , and i admire that he is really passionate about the performance .
I would love to see this kind of perforances again in the near future !

Week 8 Battle Royale review !

So our task for this tutorial week is to Review a movie called " Battle Royale " . Battle Royale is basically another one of your gory japanese killing massacre involving students that randomly got transported into somewhere that fits a killing ground . ( I read lots of Gory Japanese comic so Japan's goriness is not a new thing to me ) . Basically Battle Royale is just something like The Hunger games , Asian version .
I read the Comic version of the movie too , which is more more gory and icky .  In my opinion , this movie shows people , and how their minds change depending on what kind of community they live in , It also shows how Humans would react , when being pushed into a corner , left with no choice of survival but to kill friends they love .
I Love this movie because it really shows human nature , though it might be twisted in a way , we really never knew what will we react and how we will act if we were in that situation . I would easily say i'll just commit suicide if this situation ever happen to me , but if i am really chosen to be one of those "players"  , i might think differently and choose things that i might or might have not thought of before .
My favorite part of this movie has got to be the killing part ( not to imply that i like killing or looking at something gory ) , because some people are really creative on the ways and plans to kill the players , or survive . Some students will just blindly swing their weapon and some would panic and would go crazy , but my favorite moves was when that Crazy (blonde?) yankee mofo ( the villain character that just kill for fun) decapitates the head , put a bomb in it and throws it into the house to lure out Shuya and Noriko ( the two main characters who genuinely didn't want to kill anybody ). I find it funny in a way , why didn't he just threw the bomb inside and leave the head alone ? i believe its to add the creepiness and the craziness of the character .

The view made me feel nostalgic , as if i am in Bali .
I really miss Bali ! I Hope they wont cancel the plan on going to Bali this december , though i really hate plane flights , They always make me feel nauseous.

Week 9 ! Criticizing

This week , we had to criticize another people's blog , and gave marks to them based on what we see. Because its a make up class , lots of people ditched the class :/ .
So, we were criticizing the blog based on the groups we got . My Group is group 3 , and we got to judge group 4's blog , which is Jeff , Yee Teng , Run Yi and Li Feng .
After quickly scanning through the blogs, We quickly found lots of difference between Jeff's and Yee teng's work to Li Feng and Run Yi's work .
Jeff's and Yee Teng's blog are Good , eye catchy with minor mistakes , meanwhile Li Feng and Run Yi's , had lots of mistakes and things to catch up with , especially due to language barrier ( not too sound jerky but how did Run Yi even got accepted with her level of English .(im so rude) )
Jeff's blog is really eye-catchy and funny in my opinion ,  and it looks really completed and its clear that he puts an effort on doing it , though in my opinion , the font color cant be a bit distracting and looking at it for a long time hurts my eyes , and he didnt compile some of the blogs together ( like , for week 8 , reviews of battle royale , The review on one page , the other on another page   ) so it can be tiring ( or im just lazy) to click another page . (8/10)
Yee Teng's one is really funny , and very "her" . She puts effort in every posts and the pictures , its also completed . I like how she's creative with some of her pictures .
The one bad ( not really bad , just need to improve) about her blog that it uses a lot of singlish , us student and teachers , or any singaporeans might understand her but , the other people who doesn't know the singaporean slang might nit understand what she said in certain parts .(7/10)

Li Feng's blog seems really blank in certain ways , but i can tell that he puts effort in some of the posts , like the POTD's , and he really tried to describe the POTD (especially when its directly related to his country ). I don't like how it seems like he just copy-pasted ( and not paraphrasing) some of the words , like DeBono's facts , and some are also not yet completed . Perhaps it is also due to the language barrier , but instead of taking spirals by himself , he took the pictures from the internet . My question to him is , if you have a difficulty in understanding a language , and needs help for it , why dont you ask ? and at least make an effort on studying it more ? I myself could see a huge difference between Kevin and Him , because according to me , Eventhough Kevin had a hard time on understanding english , he still put an effort and tries to understand us, and i did not see such efforts from Li feng , i feel he is too caught up on his phone . ( again , i am being rude) (5/10)

Run Yi's blog is the worst out of all four , she really needs to catch up on her language barrier , because i can barely understand what she typed . It feels like she just google translated all of her words , and didn't even bother to recheck it . But aside from her bad english , i know that she tried .
Her blog feels really blank to me , and she missed a LOT of weekly blogs . The words in POTD are actually more than some of the word counts in The Class review and Homework . And same with Li feng , she had some misunderstandings due to language barrier . (4/10)

Thoughts on reviewing other people's work :
I DO feel awkward at criticizing other people's work , because i know that some of their blogs are more well-written than mine , and especially that moment when you have to choose between the best or the worst .The worst one was when we had to talk about why we chose Run Yi's as the worst , cause everyone just went quiet .  Sometimes it is easier to say who's the best , or sometimes it might be easier to choose the worse  , but in the end we'll always feel bad prioritizing others to each other .
I feel especially bad when criticizing Run yi 's , but the truth had to be spoken  or else they won't know and improve , but still due to the language barrier they had i'm not sure if Run yi understood what i am saying . And if she do understand I am also quite afraid that she'll start grudging against us ?
In this case , its easier for me to choose who's the best , though i also feel bad not choosing Yee Teng's , because her's are actually quite ok too .

Also this week's a picture a day !
 uhm , so like ,
I am finally eating healthy for once !
After eating fattening and ( one can say quite unhealthy ? Kway teow , Roasted chicken Rice , Bee Hoon ) i actually crave for SALAD .
I never crave for healthy foods especially Salad . but this time is an exception.
The Salad tasted heavenly

BUT IT COSTS LIKE , S$15 , WHAT . S$20 WITH THE SO CALLED HEALTHY DRINK ( its 100% fruit juice )
and the fatty food at the Hawker centre be like , $3-$4 a set .
----
I demand a world where salads are actually cheaper than junk foods and other fatty foods.
Do tell me if there's any place where you can get good salad below $6 .
i ranted about this on FB .

Week 7 ! Analogical Thinking !

Week 7 is all about analogical thinking ! which is of course , is any type of thinking that relies on analogy .
This time though , other than focusing mostly on the Analogical thinking itself , we focuses more on the part of Analogical thinking , which is similes and metaphors .
The differences between Similes and Metaphors are , Metaphors simply state a comparison meanwhile , Simile uses "as " or "like" to compare things .I belive knowing the difference between these words and be creative enough to use it is important as Mr . Ezzam said , as someone who studies Art , we will be using lots of Metaphors and Similes to compare our artwork and describing it .
This week we had a short class , but jam packed with things to do for the week ,
we are in charge of two assignments , which is taking pictures and a review on the movie Battle Royale .
This is the pictures of Spiral in Nature !! I took several spirals in Gardens By the Bay , where nature dominates .
This was taken at the entrance of the Garden, the spiral in this picture were plants ( branches ) spiralling upwards .There were several other ones that looks like this but i think this is what shows the spiral the most.
In this picture , the spiral could be seen from a part that is sticking out from the tree .This spiral spins upwards and formed a mound in the tree .
This spiral is quite abstract and random .This was taken from
This one was taken near the flowerbeds , it forms a really chaotic spiral ,each entangled to another one .
This spiral is from a plant that is hung down . the spirals shows a downward motion .
This flower has a circular motion/flow of a spiral in .
There were several other flowers with circular motions but i think this picture capture it best .
This plants has lots of spirals that turns and swirls . The spirals in this plant is also really messy and chaotic.
This plant was the same type as the one before , but the spiral shown is different , this one was connected to each other and forms a figure like form.
This cactus is really unique! the spiral is all over the cactus .
Andddd Suby's natural curls!! She sent us a selfie of her with her natural curls .

And last but not least the spiral we humans are created with . Our fingerprints !

Next are several pictures that shows my reflection .
This was taken also at Gardens by the bay . I am not sure of the material but it is reflective enough to show my reflection ( my pink shirt is especially visible here)

This is reflection taken in a metal surface .
This one was taken at the lobby of my condominium , the material was a marble-like surface ?
Took this picture because i can see my reflection clearly , and was also hunting for reflective surfaces .
This one also had a marble-like surface but slightly different and more reflective . This one was taken when im on my way to orchard .
This one was taken near Prinsep Street.
Clear reflection !
Taken at Takashimaya's kitchenware part of the supermarket.
Taken at Kinokuniya !!
its a DIY metal-sculpt thingy.

Also taken at Kinokuniya ! The plastic surface reflected my reflection quite well !
The book was Legend of Zelda
The surfaceis mirror-ish , but looks pretty grainy ?
This one is wood surface

Pretty Reflective !
Also this week's a picture a day :
It was raining really heavily last week ! at Mr Chng's class 9 we had to attend it because Mr Chng was sick and had to substitute his class) .
We were on the library learning how to draw perspective !!
I love rain , but not when i have to carry a file home , and also when it rains , the buses are usually late , so it sucks .
But i love the rain itself , especially if i'm home , drinking milo and curled up inside my blanket !

Week 6 !! Lateral thinking

This week's topic is Lateral thinking !!
Lateral thinking itself is
According to Wikipedia : a way to solve problems through an indirect and creative approach ,using reasoning that is not immediately obvious and involving ideas that may not be obtainable by using only step-by-step logic

According to BB :
Thinking Outside the Box
Ability to think creatively
Involves discarding the obvious
Leaving behind traditional modes of thought
Throwing away preconceptions
Use Inspiration and imagination to solve problems by looking at them from unexpected perpectives
provocation of a new pattern

According to Me : Lateral thinking is a way to think hypothetically which trains the mind to think out of the box and expect what is the unexpected . A way to think out of something or a concept that had been build inside our minds .

Just like this problem we encounter on this week's class .
I myself have a pretty stuck up mind and a straightforward way of thinking , and usually don't bother to look into the details . So when i tried to solve this problem by connecting straight lines that started from the dots (which of course didn't work ) . After Eng Kiet solved it , i was mindblown and for the thousand times i realize that i have to change my way of thinking , I always go by the rules , that is why i thought i couldn't cross over the dots /circles .
I think this is the way De Bono wanted artists or anyone to realize how Lateral thinking works (especially for people with stuck up mind like me ) , We have to think differently and not minimize the potential of solving the problems with rules that we had set up in our mind (which doesn't even apply as a rule to solve this problem ) .

" If you never change your mind , Why have one ?" . I think this is also De Bono's way to "scream" at people who are too afraid to make any changes and are stuck in the same rutinity because of Fear . " People succeeds after countless of Trials and Error " is also what i believe . If we are afraid to think and change our way of thinking , how would we "invent" something revolutionary ? How would someone be successful , if he think the same way as everyone ? If he did , he is either the same ( just another people in the crowd) or everyone is successful . Especially for Designers and Advertisers , Lateral thinking could be a way to success ,  The public loves something different , they DIG unique and new things , because we are always craving for something new to do and experience .
(This passage is not really connected to the one's before and to Lateral Thinking but its my thoughts about this specific quote of De Bono's : )
De Bono said " If you wait for opportunities to occur , you will be one of the crowd ." I think this quote is based on people who fears changes , and the ones who believes in " Fate " rather than actually trying to grab it ( opportunities ) . Opportunity itself wont just come and walk to you , unless you are really lucky (?) . Example is Mary Kay Ash , The founder of Mary Kay cosmetics . She took an opportunity in obstacles . She was denied a promotion and instead of being depressed about it , She took $5000 of her live savings and turned it into one of the largest , most successful multi-level marketing companies ever at a time when female CEOs are rare . This thing dont happen everyday doesn't it ? If she didn't took that opportunity she wouldn't be as successful as now .
( Back on Track )
This is my favorite quote from De Bono . It IS better to have more ideas than to have none at all , even if it turns out as a failure or does not match your taste or whoevers taste who requested it . Because by having more ideas we cover up much more , not to mention one ideas could lead to another which might be successful .
In my POV , i think its also a way to describe people who knows the theory but don't know how to apply them later on in real life . Instead its much better to be able to practice it in real life and show the results rather than being right on other peoples opinions but the results and the words said are way off .
De Bono once said : " Humour is by far the most significant activity of the human brain . "
I agree , especially after seeing some clever and funny ones . Humour makes us think in a whole new way. these are several jokes i got from tumblr which the answers and reactions are pretty unpredictable , yet it is funny and true
WE really become the waiter . Don't we?

It literally is a bowl on a stick ! We just never see it that way before ! Can you imagine someone long long ago , saying something like " You know, since its hard to scoop food using our hand , why don't we attach a little bowl with it !? " And BAM a spoon was invented . They actually used to use a clam shell and carve a spoon using a wood back in the old days .

(googled whether this is actually a word or not just to re-check ) . I think this guy ( the one who answers)

Fun facts of Edward De Bono
Despite being a widely regarded as one of the foremost experts in the fields of creativity and Lateral thinking ,(1) De Bono is also a physician ,psychologist , author , inventor and consultant ! His Nationality is (2)Maltese , which is a Southern European Island Country .He gained a medical degree in the university of Malta. Following this , He proceeded as a Rhodes Scholar to Chris Church , Oxford and (3)earned an MA. He also earned a PhD from Trinity college , (4)BUT despite all of this academic achievements , He was also chose to represent Oxford in Polo and set two canoeing records !
(5)He also advised a UK foreign office committee that the Arab-Israeli conflict might be due , in part , , to low levels of Zinc found in people who eat unleavened bread (pita flatbread). He argued that low zinc levels heightened aggression and suggested shipping out Marmites to compensate !

Innovative Design :

This Dispenser is created for people who have had enough with trying to take out the chios and have it falling on your lap instead , or maybe for someone who has fat hand ( like Me) to be able to slide the chips out easily , it can be really hard to try and grab the chips from inside the can .

Also this week's  a picture  day !!
This week has been quite eventful because we had to do lots of projects outside and my family came to visit me . I snapped several pictures i thought is good for the POTD !! This are several of my favorites this week .
Apparently The Pokemon Go virus has reached SAM ! Saw this in The second floor , just before the Odyssey exhibition . I like how they even put effort on drawing the all so mighty dragonite of his/hers . One could say its a different kind of "Art" you could encounter in an Art gallery .

Marina Mandarin's lobby has got to be one of the hotel lobby i've ever seen so far ! I may not have a good sense in design or architecture but i'm sure that anyone who step into the lobby would be awe-struck by the view !

This is the lobby in a different angle , which i took when i was sitting in a Sofa . I really like the lighting and the effect it gives to the whole inner building ! .

This is the end of this article ! thanks for reading !!

Week 5 , Mindmapping !

This week we learnt mind mapping , which is a process to map out our ideas !Mind mapping usually involves drawing and writing words to form a diagram , with the main topic written in the middle . Mr . Ezzam also said that Mind mapping doesn't focus on what is connected to the main topic , but also the topic we'll come up after brainstorming through the topic .
For Group 3 , we got ( or assumed that ) the topic " Punk " . "Punk " itself is the definition of a rock music genre that is developed from 1974 - 1976 in the States , But what can we link to this word is what they call Mind Mapping .
This is my Thoughts on " Punk " , in a Mind mapping Diagram

Also ! This week has been a  busy one because we have to document and see for ourselves what and How Singapore's night festival look like ! This is my First Night Festival on Singapore and i must say its really Bright and worth the visit !
I LOVE the " Journey " Illumination , But my favorite has got to be the Moon artpiece that is located in SAM . Can't really stay long in each places because Kevin is rushing us to the next location EVERY SINGLE TIME , The place is also really crowded and Lycia cant afford to stay longer due to Time limitations so we just rushed to most of the places .

This is the Map of the Night Fest !

And pics of my favorite artworks !! :
The " Journey " Illumination is
first thing we saw at the Festival ! Very pretty !!

Also this is my favorite illumination , It looks so mysterious and i just love this kind of artwork / style . Epic !! It somehow reminds me of an abandoned clock tower in certain games haha .
This Display is AMAZING . It looks like a Wave but when you see closer its BILLIONS of (pictures of ) Trashes compiled into each other and made this amazing wave -like silhouette !
This piece was showcased along with sea-themed artworks . I believe it represents ( or maybe inspired by ) Deep- sea jellyfishes ? Its really mesmerizing and i love how it glows on the Pitch-black room !
This has got to be my Favorite , It was a vibrant splash of oil colour and it looks like a 360 degree Rainbows ! it was showcased at the room located in corner-left side of the Museum BUT STILL AMAZING .
DOTS DOTS AND DOTS , might not be appealing for people suffering Trypophobia but it looks great to me !
Also The Jumping Man showcase that is located in Front of the National Museum is really cute !! Many people stop by and gathered just to watch it . Kevin got hooked and spent at least 15+ minuted looking at the (Light ) Man jumping over and over again .
Im not sure about this piece but it reminds me of something they use in the Gym . It is made up of wheels and bikes . Unique for sure !
I took this picture in the part of the gallery that features Mr. Lee Kuan Yew , i dont remember what it is but i think its about an established school .

This one is a bicycle booth , by cycling , The kids are able to build energy to start the fan , or blend the juices .
This is an artwork of Mr. Raffles ? ( Im not that sure )
This is a small pathway that are decorated entirely with buckets and straw hats !!
Reminds me of The Legend of Aang *Laughs
But i guess its a diagram that shows the movement of each elements !
This artpiece is a really unique one ! I didnt capture the whole artpiece because its too big but Its actually Singapore , visualized in this cardboards/sterophoam-like boxes . They displayed things that represents Singapore ( Such as Khong-Guans and The Prickly heat Powder ) through the projector and it creates the silhouetes of Buildings .
The Last one is a spot near the Food Corner , Lots of couples gathered here to take pictures . I really like this place because of the light illumination .

That's all for The Night Festival !!

For this weeks a picture a Day , I chose the pictures of Natsu Matsuri Event ( which translates to Summer Festival . This is also my first Singapore Natsu Matsuri so iwas pretty hyped ! Im tired from walking and had feet cramps the day before but i miss the Japan vibe so i visited it with my friend .
I'm not going to post only a picture because i can't choose my Favorites from all this pictures !
This Event is held in the Singapore- Japanese school , which is located near Changi . The School itself is HUGE and has this WIDE backyard .
There is lots of Japanese coming so i took y opportunity to practice my Japanese language . It has been rusty since i went back from Japan a Year ago AND i really miss the vibe of this kind of event .
This is the Yoyo balloon i got from the games !! , Really Bouncy But cute . Figure i has to at least snap a picture of it .
Also i asked for a self-portrait drawing from Tamura Chiho- sensei . Its quite Pricey but i've never had my portrait drawn before . Though it doesn't exactly look like me but its still something worth hanging on my bedroom wall !! She is an illustrator who is working on Singapore right now and is going to held an exhibition later !!

This is the peak of the event where everyone is dancing together ! The Dancing itself is called " Bon-Odori " which literally translates to the Bon-Dance . Me and my friend joined the crowd and danced together . We didn't managed to snap a pic while dancing ,But its really fun and it features some music other than Japanese-ones like Rasa Sayang and Singapore .

This is the venue , and the last picture i took a snap of before going home . I am planning on visiting again . Until Next year !
