This Week on Mr.Ezzam's class , we were provided with the topic " Breaking The rules".
First , What are rules ?
The answer is quite simple really , rules are regulation meant to be follow and execute.
But the question is , How do we break the rules ?
Do we have to simple follow the rules blindly ? Can we be creative if we have to keep following the rules and not able to decide ourselves ? Can we break the rules just so we can think out of the box and discover new ideas ?
According to Steve jobs , and every artists in the whole world , we often have to break rules , because by doing so we discovered something new , either its a new perspective , new way of thinking or a new experience . Also by the Rule written here , i don't mean the Law , like trespassing , jaywalking , stealing other people's car etc. By breaking the rules , i mean breaking and discovering a way to find another way of thinking on your mind , to step outside your comfort zone and think about weird ideas you've never thought of before ,basically be creative , think extraordinary ,like no one has ever did. And that's exactly the point of Creative thinking class.
Not only the lectures , but the videos posted on the Blackboard also teaches us how to break the rules , it also shows how our brain actually process thoughts and depending on the questions we see , we might react to it fast or slow .I gained lots of knowledge from these videos , especially in discovering the way my brain works and the patterns it show whenever i saw something that caught my eye . Before this class , i might look at something , be interested and just walk away , but now i question and wonder how could something be so eye-catching and if it was my artwork there , what can i do to make it even more interesting.
In my opinion , to actually be able to Break the rules , first we have to break our concept of how things are suppose to be . For example , go explore different cultures , travel alone , do something you usually don't and do not limit what you see and think as it is . Because just by doing those , we gain small ideas that would turn into an inspiration .
I myself realize , that my mind is too stuck up to change the mindset i have now , I'm constantly reminded of how things should be and am weirded out when it's not similar to what's on my mind . Basically i am afraid of changes ,especially when it invades my comfort zone , until my experience in Japan changed me , not 100 % but a little tiny bit of progress counts right ? The moment that help me ponder again upon myself was when i participated an art exhibition at Kochi city , Japan . I thought my drawing is good enough , and people would glance , or even took pictures of it . Never realized how wrong i was until the exhibition day .
The Students didnt even took a pic , nor stop to look at it , and of course i was disappointed . In the end of the day i asked my teachers about it , and they said " I guess its just not good enough , and they did put ours in the back of the hall . But that shouldn't be a problem if your drawing is good . " I also seek opinions from another students and teachers , and from this experience i learned a lot about the cultures , the japanese mindset and preferences etc in the world of Art . . Based on this alone ,i agree that staying out of your comfort zone could inspire and change you , when someone is too afraid to go out and see the real world , i think that is when they are too afraid of breaking the rule that they set for themselves .
( i don't think this has any connection with " Breaking Rules anymore " I'm really sorry )

Innovative Designs
A few days ago , we were given a group task to find innovative designs , Each Group has to contribute at least 5 innovative designs and objects .
In my opinion , Innovative means useful and creative . not limited to only one use but also another .
After several minutes of searching from the internet , this two products caught my interest the most . it's associated with people with disabilities , Blind ones to be exact .
Product one is The Braille Interpreter , Made by Hyung Jin Lim .
This product is made for blind people , according to me it is also made for people who might be unfortunate to have a learning disorder and blind, or someone who didn't have a chance to learn brailles . The use of this item is to interpret brailles for blind people who didn't understand how to read it .
The second product is also another device to help visually-impaired people . It is called SIAFU , A PC that is specially designed for blind people to access technology easily . We all know that it's hard for blind people to access technology such as the internet and the information in it . Even if they do , they will need someone to read what's inside the e-article , but this is the device that will change it all .
Designed By an Industrial designer John Lucas , this device uses a conceptual material , which is called Magneclay . This clay will morph into the texts or even 3D images , constructed solely from the Magneclay . In my opinion , this product really helps the visually-impaired people , by allowing them to use the internet and able to know and access information just like people without disabilities would .
The next innovative products was contributed by the people of my group , Lycia , Kevin and Danial .
Lycia's product is a bottle bubble blower . It's basically a DIY product you can make by yourself , and not only did it help in waste reduction and environmentally friendly , it can also save your money from Toys r us expensive bubble blower !
Danial's pick is An Organized Knife keeper , which is basically knives stacked into each other from the biggest to the smallest ! i personally like it because it could save lots of spaces , especially for people who live in a small apartment ,with a small bedroom with an even smaller kitchen . This design is made by (Deglon Company (? )).
Last but not least is Kevin's pick !
Kevin chose a really cool and refined bicycle , which saddle is multifunctional . Has your bicycle been stolen before ? Then chillax , because this bicycle will never be stolen again ! The Saddle of the bike is not only a saddle , because its also a lock ! A foolproof one , mind you . The only thing you need to do is turn your saddle backwards after using and lock it into the small opening in the wheel . Don't forget to set a password and voila ! your bike is safe and sound ! This bicycle is designed by Lee Sang Hwa , Kim Jin ho and Yeo min gu .
That's all from our group ! Group 3

Tag with strangers Challenge !
Playing tag with strangers ! Oh how would the strangers react ?
The four of us was wandering around the street of orchards to find some preys , and sure enough we got some ! Though there's more people who fail to give the wanted response. ( Learned more about the stranger stereotypes today. )
To watch our responded attempts , please click here :

Danial contributed a LOT today , he got ignored A LOT :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORfv9jQYpOM
At the end of the day we were exhausted mentally and phisically , Nevertheless , it was fun and challenging . We treated ourself with Bread Ice cream ( Which is good and cheap ) and headed home safely !
Looking forward to our next project !

Creative Thinking Journal Pt. 2
This is My Creative Thinking Group ! Group 3 !!
My group consists of Danial , The smart-guy ( The one who's grinning widely )
Lycia , The self-proclaimed weeb ( Yes she authorized this nickname) ( Girl in the Left-side of the picture )
and Kevin , The funny guy ! ( the one who took the selfie ! )
( Coca - cola shirt = Me )
Until this day i might say we bonded quite well ,i feel lucky to have them as a groupmate.
And also , in order to get to know each other better (also for the sake of this blog page) , i interviewed them a bit and earned some basic informations about them, including the reason why they chose NAFA , Yay ! If this is one way to expand our social circle and get to learn more of our groupmates then i shall thank Mr. Ezzam for the indirect but effective plan.
Eventhough (Mr.) Ezzam had just assigned us in a group together a few days ago , Me and Lycia had met each other several days before . My first impression of her is a really shy girl but of course , proved wrong just like any other shy girl i've met . She is really just a hyper weeb who loves Japan as much as i do (haha) . I'd say that i am the closest to her in the group because we've been together since orientation day 1.
Hobbies : Drawing and Sleeping
Reason of choosing NAFA : She doesn't like Government school and wants a change of environment . also likes art .
Danial's next ,
My first impression of him was quite normal , anyone would think that he look smart , just because he has a smart guy stereotype . Later on i learned that he is a kind guy , but not that smart ( but i cant really say that because i dont think he has ever shown his smart side of him , i believe everyone is smart , just lazy ) ,Also shy ,but not like Lycia kind of shy. He has a special ability though , he's able to teleport ANYWHERE without anyone knowing that he's gone . Overall i really like his personality because even if he's shy he still show desire to socialize and cooperate.
Hobbies : Playing Soccer and Singing ( asked him to specify music )
Reason of choosing NAFA : Because he wanted to pursue his previous course which is interior design.
Last but not least , Kevin .
Kevin was just your average Chinese guy , didn't gave me any lasting impression when we first met , but i knew that he's willing to cooperate when its comes to group work. He has been really friendly since the first time we became group mates ( luckily everyone in my group is also friendly) .We still had some difficulties regarding languages because his english is not as fluent but we try to overcome it by learning more about each languages or translate it when we have to . So far i'm enjoying his presence in the group because he really shows passion in learning arts , and is also really patient when listening to my rant and complaints (mostly joking) .
Hobbies : Swimming , Badminton , Watching movie .
Reason of choosing NAFA : Doesn't like learning in his own country ( apparently it's hard to search for jobs and make a living depending solely on Art in China) and he claimed that there's a difference ( though slight ) at the studies here .
Also loves Art as a kid .

Creative Thinking Journal Pt. 1
The first day of the Creative thinking class is unlike what i had expected . It was really engaging , and we are encouraged to be active in the class. Our lecturer is (Mr.) Ezzam , a really funny person , but also strict with schedule. Mr. Ezzam likes to speak to the point , and won't hesitate to address you in a harsh manner in case you did something wrong or break the rules of his class, but putting that aside , i think Mr. Ezzam is a really good lecturer .

I think by the end of the semester , students who has learned the subject would be able to know and use any information to our advantage , able to think creatively and might be able to even invent groundbreaking methods or ideas no one has ever thought of , basically to think out of the box ,also to ponder on the impact of the Art we make ,what will it contribute to society . I'm really looking forward to the next lesson and what impact will it have on our mind-set and ability ! this is the end of my CT journal #1 .Thanks for reading !!
